Mid April, 2011

Virginia Beach, VA

I went to Virginia Beach because Fred was looking for crew and he seemed like a very nice skipper.  He had a 40’ sailboat and was just returning from the Bahamas.  The Bahamas is his winter run and now he would be going on his summer run up the Chesapeake Bay.  He brought his boat home to a marina near his house in Virginia Beach, VA.  This is around the corner from the  Chesapeake Bay which begins near Norfolk, VA and goes all the way to Annapolis, MD and beyond.  I went to meet him at his house near Virginia Beach and get to know him as he prepared his boat for the summer season in the Chesapeake.  If all went well, we would sail the Chesapeake mid May to mid July.
Is it San Diego or Virginia Beach?

There was a lot of fun signage and art work along the beach.

He had generator and SSB (single side band radio) problems on the boat when he left the Bahamas and needed to get it fixed before he headed out.  The turned out to be more extensive than he thought and he decided to probably cancel his summer trip.   I didn’t sail at all with him.  But I had great fun walking the boardwalk of Virginia Beach every morning which was two blocks from his house, spending the days at the Edgar Caycee center with the largest metaphysical library in the U.S., and nice meals at home with Fred.
A trip to the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Center.  Well worth it!
A shy little fellow
I don't know if I would want to be on exhibit all day.  He made beautiful wooden ducks.

We spent two fun weeks together and then it was time to move on and find a boat for the summer.  There were many boats leaving from Palm Beach going to the Bahamas so I returned back ‘home’ to Steve & Laurie’s.

Across from Norfolk to Portsmouth via little taxi/ferry.
Military ships.
NATO parade.  Of course the Shriners were there.
And the Klampett mobile.
Always glad to partake in public art work.
